| Cheque Mate opened up his winning account today when he won at Belmont Park at 30/1! Having just his third ever start in a race, Cheque Mate was perfectly ridden by Shaun McGruddy who got the horse to settle nicely, had him in the clear at all times, and had him poised to make his run at the top of the straight. The son of Helenus never looked in doubt in the straight and wnet on to win narrowly but very impressively.
Trainer Ken Williamson achieved one of his best training efforts today and has to be congratulated on the win. It\'s a very rare feat in Australia for a horse to be having it\'s third ever start in a race over 2100m and even rarer for it to win! So well done Ken! |
